There's a pretty large Mark di Suvero between the Denver Art Museum and the Denver Public Library.
Harry said that he climbed it one night and found that the top has a hinge, that MOVES! You're not supposed to climb the sculpture, but why would someone put a moveable part... to be MOVED in a sculpture, you're not supposed to climb on?!
I investigated.
Climbing.
Sitting.
From the roof of the Denver Art Museum.
Sure enough, there's a hinge. And it moves. And it went, "Clank!" when I pushed it too hard. And the security did come out and catch me, twenty feet up.
I like this sculpture. Maybe the kinetic part is some sort of secret only the brave or stupid would find out about. A little joke di Suvero played. Maybe it just what worked and has no real purpose.
A somewhat similar in size and color scultpure is found at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford called, Stegosaurus by Alexander Calder . When I was younger I was insanely into Dinosaurs and that sculpture really made me wonder.
When I was a teenager, I forgot about the Stegosaurus sculpture and the art museum right by, and focused on the marble ledges close by that were lots of fun to skateboard on. And now I think of the scultpure again.
Dinosaurs, always on my mind!
Thanks Harry and Natalie. I had a very good time hanging out with the two of you; sleeping over at your new house, waking up! putsing around Denver and checking out the mythical, Hard Rock Cafe. Next week, maybe you two can free me from my workaholic stupers and get me to play some kickball.
