June 2, 2001: Hello Teenage Revolt

I have this crazy curiosity for fonts lately, the idea that you can capture the feeling of a letter form into an electronic file that you can use again and again and again is spellbinding. Ever look at an 'A' - seen what makes it an 'A' why it's not a 'B' or 'J' or not a tiger or a whale, not a solar system or an atomic bomb? The whole idea of letters and words is simply nuts.

This is the second font I've created, it's called - hello teenage revolt - it started out as a mixture poster/cutout font, although it's appearance and character are almost all cutout, the curves that were in the rough drafts have disappeared. It's not exactly what I pictured it would turn out to be, but its satisfying. The third font I make should be actually useable. I plan to try to use this one anyways. Try drawing a font, look at the lettering on your phone, appreciate their curves and hints. love the strokes and kerning. The letters themeselves communicate, perhaps more than the words they create.
