October 29, 2000: Gestalt Circles

This was inspired from a little drawing showing a fundamental rule of Gestalt thinking,

showing that "the tendency to organize dots into rows is stronger than the tendency of association by proximity." I just thought it look like the dots were already moving, bordering on some kind of optical illusion.

So I wondered. What would it look like if I, well, moved, animated it?

I started with just circles, the photograph was a mistake, I pasted in the picture at the wrong place. I kept it, it made it look good.

I was really interested in Gestalt Physcology once, and was going to make a whole project on it one summer. I made this instead. I found this diagram in a book at work. I noticed halfway through reading it, that I've read the exact same book before, in highschool- and this was the same book that made me want to do the Gestalt project in the first place. Creepy Shit.
