I was toying around with the idea of blending sketches made with plain ol'
paper and pencil, then modified with a computer, yeah, yeah, real original
idea. It just so happened I had to make a drawing of sunglasses and it just so
happened that I had a kick ass pair of glasses. Really, top notch knockoffs. A
shopkeeper at The Renaissance Festival in Colorado this summer wanted my glasses,
needed these glasses, so much he was making wild offers for them; money,
merchandise, "Those glasses would make me complete!" he yelled
as I walked away, laughing. People at a renaissance Festival are weird, they get
into their little role and just act like real whiny brutes. What a crazy time.
"Plagues over... lets all be artsy!"
I kept a hold of my glasses. I got em at a lame hat shop right beside Rasta
Pasta in Breckenridge. I used to work at Rasta Pasta so they were kinda like a
reminder of really fun times there. Hell no I ain't going to give anyone my glasses.
Here's some toils from my tools:
Glasses Foto Shopped -
Original Drawing -
I drew these at my favorite coffee shop. I learned from my brother
not to drink coffee and draw. He's a tattoo artist. He'd know, (poor guy- that
jittery thing on his arm is permanent I guess...) so I had tea, found the table
with the most light and got to work. I got most of the outline done, but the lenses
weren't giving the illusion of roundness, and the last thing I wanted to do was
screw up a drawing by trying to shade, my shading skills have been left in 10th
grade.
I noticed my reflection, and remember Maurits Cornelis Escher's
work, such as his
globe self portrait, so I thought I'd try to draw my reflection (I
am no Escher, nor will I ever be) , I really didn't want to screw
it up, but it work - well enough - and did what I needed. The computer enhanced
version was just icing on the cake.
